Marco Polo Cafe (Closed)

After the folks @SaintDelivery mentioned the amazing $1 Sliders at Marco Polo Cafe (102 St. Marks, near 1st Avenue) I decided that I had to try them out for myself. Needless to say, I’ve been there 3 times in the last 4 days; AMAZING. Named after the famed Venetian explorer that opened up the Chinese Silk Road, Marco Polo serves up Italian-Chinese fusion food.
The main attraction, however, are the $1 sliders that are a new addition & not yet on the menu. The owner/chef Ms. Jiang has a particular fondness for Bison which features heavily on the menu, both in slider & meatball form. Marco Polo is pretty easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Basically a tiny room with a small, open kitchen (separated by a tiny divider), it’s really not much to look at but the food produced there is really top notch. It’s also BYOB which is a major plus.
The Bison Sliders are really well seasoned & served simply with diced onion, cheese (American) & a dollop of ketchup. This was the first place I’ve ever eaten Bison & honestly, it tastes a whole lot better than beef. I’ll admit that the flavor may not be for everyone, but I really like it. The sliders also come in Beef or Turkey ‘flavor’. At 25 cents a bite, these things are really quite a steal.
Other dishes that are recommended are the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns (3 for $4.95) & the Moo Goo Gai Panini ($8.95). They also have Tater Tots for a buck, but I saw someone order them on Friday & well, how should I put this? They looked wrong. Steer clear of those… So if you’re looking for a quick, delicious bite, grab some quarters from the inner recesses of your couch & head to Marco Polo Cafe for some sliders!
Update: Marco Polo Cafe now “Mini Burger“. Currently CLOSED.
