Brunch at Belcourt

Don’t you just hate it when you plan to go somewhere to eat & then you find out that they’re closed? Well that’s what happened to a new-found foodie friend & I on Labor Day (I know, it’s a while back) when we tried to go to Vandaag (review to come). We decided on one of my old favorites, Belcourt (84 4th Street at 2nd Avenue), they were fairly empty & had outdoor seating as the weather was nice, perfect.
I jumped right in & got the Salmon Omelet ($11) it came with cream cheese, red onions, capers, grilled bread and mixed greens. I’m extremely picky about how my eggs are done (see my review of brunches at Esperanto or Arcane!), so I was very pleased with my omelet. It could have used a bit more spicing though & I’m not much of a salad guy, so the greens just got in the way.
I had been raving about the Lamb Burger ($12, cheese, bacon, etc. $2) so my lunch buddy got that. I absolutely love the lamb burger there (also available in plain ‘ol beef), but I don’t think he was blown away. Not that he didn’t like it, but he just wasn’t as enthusiastic as me. His loss, I really like the Brioche that the burger is served on & the fries rank pretty high up there.
Well, this was a small glimpse into the brunch at Belcourt, a restaurant that I enjoy & recommend. Like any other restaurant, it has its minor flaws, but a good brunch experience.
I’ve been there for dinner several times & trust me, the dining only gets better! My personal favorites for appetizers are the Sweetbreads (best in the city!) & the Octopus which is grilled & served with a mint, jalapeno & cilantro sauce. As for the mains, I’ve had the fluke & the aforementioned Lamb Burger. There is also an extensive beer selection, which works out just great for me! Dinner can get a bit pricey with booze & all, but I think that the quality of the food is totally worth it. Hopefully I’ll be back there for dinner soon so I can write a full review.

Hi-I think we chatted briefly online before. You should have introduced yourself when you came in.
We have a lot of new things going on here–I started about 3 months ago. We have parties every 10 days or so (cast parties, book signings, cocktail party networking etc, a big Halloween event etc).
We have half-priced wine bottles on Monday.
We are starting a gay-themed night on Sunday with a four course dinner with wine for $35 and an all night happy hour on Sunday.
Here is our facebook page-please look us up.
