Royale Revisited
Trolling along Avenue C & looking for something to eat, I decided to stop by my old haunt Royale (157 Avenue C @ 10th Street review here). I haven’t been there in several months & I wanted to see if there have been any changes there.
Bar Food At East Village Tavern
I recently went to East Village Tavern (158 Avenue C at 10th Street) for the first time a few days ago. It had been a French-Japanese fusion restaurant several years ago, but the space has been gutted & there is a brand new bar with a much more open feel. I was there for my […]
Brunch At VBar
Shortly after attempting to go to the Grub Street Food Festival, a friend & I spent ages trying to find a brunch spot in the LES, Schiller’s, Essex Restaurant & Spitzer’s Corner were all Ram Jam, so we ended up at Vbar (132 1st Avenue at Saint Marks Place)Bar. A complete disaster ensued. VBar is […]
Ruby’s Bar & Grill to close
In a further show of developer’s inability to mix the old & the new Ruby’s (1213 Riegelmann Boardwalk) will be shuttered for good in 2 weeks. It’s already closed for the season, but it’ll never open again. I reviewed it back in August & I can honestly say that I’m really going to miss this […]
Lilly Coogan’s to become Coal Yard
Yesterday I bumped into a friend, Steve Schweiger outside the former Lilly Coogan’s space (102 First Avenue @ 6th Street) which shuttered in late May/early June. He’s the general contractor overseeing the renovation there. Word is that the partners from nearby International Bar (120 1/2 First Avenue @7th Street) will be taking the bar over […]
Petite Abeille
The family (well 4 out of 6 of us) got together last night for dinner at a Belgian restaurant that we pass frequently. Petite Abeille (401 East 20th Street) is a pretty bustling restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating right on the corner of 1st Avenue. It being Belgian, we were immediately thinking Moules Frite, […]
Sake Bar Satsko
I’m really surprised it’s taken me so long to write a review of Sake Bar Satsko (202 East 7th Street between Ave. B & C), particularly because I live across the street & seem to spend a lot of time eating & drinking there. It’s a tiny sliver of a place & it took me […]
Ruby’s Bar & Grill
It took me about 22 years of living in NYC to finally make it out to Coney Island & when I did, I headed straight for Ruby’s (1213 Riegelmann Boardwalk). This place takes ‘Dive Bar’ to a whole new level & throws in a side of Coney Island Boardwalk & sea views. Mismatched furniture, a […]
The Rusty Knot
After visiting The Frying Pan, I decided to hit up the nautically-themed Rusty Knot (425 West Street at West 11th St.). It’s a bit out of my normal stomping grounds but I was already on the West Side. I’d been there before for drinks (normally a Tecate & the infamous Pickleback; a shot of pickle […]
Croxley’s
Two words; Messy Fingers. This is what you can expect when you go to Croxley’s. Mondays and Wednesdays are 10 cent wing nights & as the picture demonstrates things can get really messy (20 cent wings til 5 on Saturday & all day Sunday), I don’t know why they bother giving us forks anyhoo!
