Food & Drink recommendations straight from the East Village, New York City

Idle Hands Taking Over Station B

Idle Hands, the “Bourbon, Beer & Rock” bar that has been in the basement of 25 Avenue B for the past few years will be taking over the upstairs bar with was previously Station B.  Word has it that it’ll be pretty much business as usual with the upstairs having the same excellent selection of […]

Boulton & Watt

Like many other East Villagers I was sad to see Nice Guy Eddies close.  The KISS mural outside was a bit of a neighborhood landmark, the food wasn’t the best (I was a fan of the wings) and the place was pretty dingy, but it was a chill place to get a beer & watch […]

Mighty Quinn’s BBQ

Normally when I think of good barbecue the first thing that comes to mind is a rundown old shack down south with a potbellied pitmaster that has been smoking meat for the best part of his life, not the epicenter of the East Village.  Mighty Quinn’s BBQ (which began at Smorgasburg) hopes to change that with […]

Aurora

When I started this blog just over 3 years ago I chose (what I thought was) a clever name and planned to review the area that I live in solely, but there’s so much great food in this, the most amazing of cities, that I’d be doing everyone a disservice if I didn’t branch out […]

BrisketTown

Hidden behind a unique wooden door lies what I can only describe as the Holy Grail of Meat.  Several weeks after my visit to Daniel Delaney’s pop-up BrisketLab (more on that awesome day here), they’ve opened their first brick & mortar location in Williamsburg.  We had pre-ordered 3lbs of meat, so we were guaranteed to […]

St. Dymphna’s

Reminding me of my school years in England, St. Dymphna’s brings an awesome Irish flair to the East Village.  Ice-cold Guinness, a no nonsense menu & an awesome staff totally round out this Irish Pub in the East Village.  I’ve been going there for a few years & the place just seems to get better […]

Sunday Roast at Tuck Shop

The St Marks Pl. outpost of the Aussie meat pie slinging Tuck Shop will be offering expats (and locals alike) a taste of home with a weekly Sunday Roast from 3-7pm.  15 bucks will get you roast lamb, veggies, Yorkshire pudding & gravy.  They’ll also be showing Aussie TV & Match of the Day.  Don’t […]

New Fall Menu At Arcane

East Village restaurant Arcane has brought in chef Justin Fertitta (formerly of Jane and Toucan & The Lion) to revamp their menu.  Previously featuring French and Caribbean cuisine, chef Fertitta (who has traveled extensively in the region) has added Asian influences & shortened the menu to 6 starters and 6 entrees.

Dim Sum Sunday At Sake Bar Satsko

Sake Bar Satsko will have a variety of dim sum on the menu every Sunday, 2pm to midnight. From a recent Facebook Update: Dim Sum Sunday starting this Sunday, October 14th. Pork & garlic chive / chili infused sauce Eggplant & tofu / soy sherry sauce Crispy shrimp balls / lime fish sauce Pork & […]

Bondi Road Set To Close This Sunday

A friend passed by Bondi Road in the Lower East Side & noted that there was a sign up stating that the Australian restaurant will be closing on September 30th.  Owned by Moo Life Group, the same folks behind Sunburnt Cow (coverage) in the East Village, it seems that skyrocketing rents have forced the closure.
