Vandaag (CLOSED)
This post is just evidence of my laziness, I ate here well before Sam Sifton & plenty of other food reporters, but I’ve only just got around to writing my review. Vandaag is a Dutch restaurant & bakery that serves dishes from Northern Europe using locally (Hudson Valley region) sourced ingredients. It’s housed in the former […]
Satsko Wins Village Voice Nightlife Award
Sake Bar Satsko (my review here) has been voted ‘Best Place for Dinner & a Hangover‘ by the Village Voice & Sound of the City. Well, actually, it tied with some place called Roberta’s, but I don’t know where or what the heck that place is & I don’t really care. I’ve been singing […]
Village Yokocho
It’s funny how a bit of misfortune can turn into a good thing. I had hoped to take my Mom to Ippudo on 4th avenue for some ramen, but the place was packed to the gills, so we headed east & wound up eating at Village Yokocho. Not ramen, but we ended up enjoying ourselves.
Coal Yard
I had mentioned back in mid-October that Lilly Coogan’s was being re-opened as Coal Yard (102 First Avenue @ 6th Street), well they’ve been open for more than a month & the Yard has quickly become one of my favorite bars in the East Village. I figure it’s about time I reviewed bars & this […]
Royale Revisited
Trolling along Avenue C & looking for something to eat, I decided to stop by my old haunt Royale (157 Avenue C @ 10th Street review here). I haven’t been there in several months & I wanted to see if there have been any changes there.
Bar Food At East Village Tavern
I recently went to East Village Tavern (158 Avenue C at 10th Street) for the first time a few days ago. It had been a French-Japanese fusion restaurant several years ago, but the space has been gutted & there is a brand new bar with a much more open feel. I was there for my […]
Ruby’s Bar & Grill to close
In a further show of developer’s inability to mix the old & the new Ruby’s (1213 Riegelmann Boardwalk) will be shuttered for good in 2 weeks. It’s already closed for the season, but it’ll never open again. I reviewed it back in August & I can honestly say that I’m really going to miss this […]
Kafana
Serbian food really isn’t a cuisine that I know much about or search out, but I’m always eager to try new things which is why I’m glad that we have Kafana (116 Avenue C between 7th & 8th street). I reviewed Kafana back in 2008 on my previous blog Thursday Club NYC & had thoroughly […]
Lilly Coogan’s to become Coal Yard
Yesterday I bumped into a friend, Steve Schweiger outside the former Lilly Coogan’s space (102 First Avenue @ 6th Street) which shuttered in late May/early June. He’s the general contractor overseeing the renovation there. Word is that the partners from nearby International Bar (120 1/2 First Avenue @7th Street) will be taking the bar over […]
Zum Schneider continues to menace the ‘hood
I recently passed by Zum Schneider (107 Avenue C @ 7th Street) & Oktoberfest is in full swing. The place was absolutely heaving & there was a gigantic line outside. You could hear the music/shouting/crying from a block or two away & it seems like everyone was having a hell of a time. The 2nd […]
