Taste of 7th Street
Dumpling Man, NYCI love my city, New York. I love my neighborhood, the East Village. And even more & more I love my street, 7th Street (before there’s an uproar, I do realize that some of the restaurants are not on 7th Street).  I reported earlier about the 2011 Taste of 7th St.  I went this year with a few friends & had a great time.  We had 3 days to eat our way through the list this time, so I was able to spread my dining out & avoid the food baby that I had last year. Edi & The Wolf Has A Patio?

Posted on | April 28, 2011 | No Comments

Edi & the Wolf GardenI still haven’t been to the new Austrian restaurant Edi & The Wolf (102 Avenue C at 7th St.) yet, but I’ll admit that I really do want to check it out.  A few days ago,  Grubstreet (via NY1) reports that their back patio should be opening any day now.  There aren’t any pictures yet, but it’ll hold 30 seats & be a similar decor to the interior.  It’ll be great to have another outdoor space so close to home.

Update; Patio is open, I’ll take pics as soon as possible.

Petite Abeille Revisited

Posted on | April 27, 2011 | 3 Comments

After the amazing meal my family had at Petite Abeille (401 East 20th Street at 1st Avenue) last summer, I decided to go back on with my mother on a lazy Saturday.  As soon as we entered the restaurant, I could feel a change in the vibe from our previous visit.  There were strollers everywhere & kids screaming & running all over the place, this was a far cry from the brunch crowd that I’m used to, but I wasn’t going to let this dampen my mood. Dorian Gray

Dorian Gray

Dorian Gray (205 East 4th Street between Avenue A & B) is a relative newcomer to the East Village food scene & I had a chance to eat there twice over the past week & I’ll admit that I really like the joint. Once I found out that they serve a Full Irish Breakfast all day long, I knew that I was going to be right at home. Read more

The upcoming Tribeca Film Fest includes a smattering of food-focused features, including A Matter of Taste, a documentary about Corton chef Paul Liebrandt; Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a documentary about a three-Michelin-starred master sushi chef; and The Trip, with Steve Coogan as a British food critic. Tickets ($16 to $25)

Work Continues at 127 Avenue C

Posted on | April 20, 2011 | 1 Comment

The gutting of 127 Avenue C at 8th street (currently Cotto, formerly Caffe Peppe Rosso) is in full swing & I passed by yesterday to see that there seems to be some external work going on.  The place has been torn down to the studs & was talking to a few locals next door at Duke’s Bar & the general consensus is that this will not reopen at the restaurant it formerly was.  Maybe that’s a plus as I never really liked the menu at Cotto.  I’ll update as news surfaces.

UPDATE: The restaurant, now called Verso, is Open.

Spice Cove

Posted on | April 19, 2011 | 2 Comments

Spice CoveWith so many Indian restaurants along Curry Row (East 6th street between 1st & 2nd Avenue), I really don’t know why I don’t eat more Indian food.  Maybe it’s because I spent so much time in England where curry is basically an art-form & I’ve been unable to find really great Indian food here in NYC.  After a long absence, I returned to an old favorite, Spice Cove (326 East 6th Street between 1st & 2nd Avenue).  It was early on a Monday evening so we had the place to ourselves. Mini Burger Shutters

Mini Burger (102 St. Marks, near 1st Avenue, formerly Marco Polo Cafe) has been seized by Marshal’s (image) & is no longer open.  It’s a real shame as they made awesome Bison Sliders.
