We’re nearly there! East Village Eats Tasting Tour2012 (organized by Fourth Arts Block, I am in no way affiliated) starts in less than 3 hours!!!
“Treat yourself to a tasty smattering of eclectic cultural cuisines during FABnyc’s annual East Village Eats Tasting Tour. Explore block after block of downtown’s most delightful eateries, noshing on bites of Tortita de Carnitas from Hecho & Dumbo + Salón Hecho, German sausage fromWechsler’s Currywurst, Ukrainian short rib pierogi from Veselka Bowery, Asian noodles from Jun Mum and Hot Kitchen, tacos from Oaxaca Taqueria, and desserts from Spot Dessert Bar and Poco. Stick around after the tour for East Village Eats Happy Hour, 5-7PM.
Tickets include all bites at participating restaurants, 1-5PM; Happy Hour drink specials at Idle Hands Bar, Aroma Kitchen and Winebar, & Jimmy’s No. 43 from 5-7PM; and a raffle ticket for a dining & theater excursion in the East Village. VIP ticket includes a stylish FABnyc tote.

Sunday Roast at Tuck Shop

The St Marks Pl. outpost of the Aussie meat pie slinging Tuck Shop will be offering expats (and locals alike) a taste of home with a weekly Sunday Roast from 3-7pm. 15 bucks will get you roast lamb, veggies, Yorkshire pudding & gravy. They’ll also be showing Aussie TV & Match of the Day. Don’t forget to save room for a meat pie!

Feast Of San Gennaro Recap

I realize that this is a bit of old news, but I felt the need to write about this year’s Feast Of San Gennaro which took place on Mulberry Street in little Italy. In it’s 86th year, the event lasts 11 days & is a celebration of the patron saint of Naples. I went during the week, so it was busy, but not crowded like the weekends. Read more

New Fall Menu At Arcane

East Village restaurant Arcane has brought in chef Justin Fertitta (formerly of Jane and Toucan & The Lion) to revamp their menu. Previously featuring French and Caribbean cuisine, chef Fertitta (who has traveled extensively in the region) has added Asian influences & shortened the menu to 6 starters and 6 entrees. Read more

Sake Bar Satsko will have a variety of dim sum on the menu every Sunday, 2pm to midnight.
From a recent Facebook Update:
Dim Sum Sunday starting this Sunday, October 14th.
Pork & garlic chive / chili infused sauce
Eggplant & tofu / soy sherry sauce
Crispy shrimp balls / lime fish sauce
Pork & shrimp harumaki / soy garlic sauce
Tofu & vegetable egg roll / soy garlic sauce
Fried salmon wontons /green curry sauce
Ginger shiitake / red crystal sauce
Steamed beef balls / hoisin soy sauce
Four colour pork dumplings / chili sauce
Crispy chicken money bags / spicy plum sauceWe use organic free range and cruelty free ingredients
as much as possible.The menu will change weekly.

That’s quite a list! I had the opportunity to try a few variations out last week & they’re pretty damn good! I know where I’ll be this Sunday!

Bondi Road Set To Close This Sunday

A friend passed by Bondi Road in the Lower East Side & noted that there was a sign up stating that the Australian restaurant will be closing on September 30th. Owned by Moo Life Group, the same folks behind Sunburnt Cow (coverage) in the East Village, it seems that skyrocketing rents have forced the closure. Read more
Amateur Chili Cook-Off

East Village’s Jimmy’s #43 will be hosting an amateur chili cook-off with Lucky 777 Chili.
When: October 14th 1-3pm
Where: Jimmy’s No. 43, 43 East 7th St. at 2nd Avenue
For $20, you can get unlimited tastes of the competing chili with cornbread and vote your favorite.
All proceeds from this event go to God’s Love We Deliver.
