M2M
Morning to Midnight, aka M2M, is a bright Asian supermarket packed full of lots of items that you would otherwise have to go to Chinatown or Koreatown to find. Even if I really don’t need anything, I often find myself going into M2M just to browse the aisles and have a look around. Before I […]
Minca
Where should I begin? Minca has cured both colds & hangovers since I started going there in 2004. Even with Kuboya Ramen just next door & Rai Rai Ken not too far away, I still feel like Minca is the best ramen in the East Village (I have yet to try, Setagaya, Ippudo & Robataki which […]
Jin Restaurant Revisited
The food at Jin (252 Broome Street between Ludlow & Orchard Street) is way too good for just a single visit, so after a few months away, I went back for a second review. Luckily the Happy Hour special was still in full swing when we arrived. From 3:30-7pm during the week, there are several […]
Satsko Eldridge Closes
Sake Bar Satsko‘s more grownup & fancy sister, Satsko Eldridge (245 Eldridge St. between Houston & Stanton Street), has closed. I knew business there has been slow for quite some time, but on Saturday the rumors were confirmed via a friend & today Bowery Boogie reveals that it’s due to nonpayment of taxes.
Fu Sushi (CLOSED)
Although I sing the praises of Takahachi, Fu Sushi is another great sushi spot in the East Village. It’s normally not packed to the gills, the staff are friendly & they serve up great food. I’ve been there a bunch of times, so basically here’s a rundown of what’s on offer.
Bond St
I’m going to start by saying that this is a post about the lounge downstairs at Bond St (6 Bond Street between Broadway & Lafayette) & not the restaurant upstairs. The food comes from the same kitchen, but the dining experience can be as different as night & day (more on that later). I’ve been […]
Village Yokocho
It’s funny how a bit of misfortune can turn into a good thing. I had hoped to take my Mom to Ippudo on 4th avenue for some ramen, but the place was packed to the gills, so we headed east & wound up eating at Village Yokocho. Not ramen, but we ended up enjoying ourselves.
Yakiniku West
A few weeks ago, a group of drunks & foodies (I fall into both categories) descended on 9th street to eat, booze & celebrate Dan‘s birthday at Yakiniku West (218 East 9th St. between 2nd & 3rd Avenue). Yakiniku is a Japanese Steakhouse, complete with a no shoe policy, loads of wood paneling, sunken seating […]
Kuboya Ramen
A few days ago I talked about Kuboya Ramen that popped up right next door to Minca, the much loved reigning champ on the block. I questioned whether or not we need another Ramen spot on 5th street. Well, I decided to check out Kuboya for myself & here’s my review.
Ramen @ Sake Bar Satsko
It’s no secret that I have a real soft spot for Sake Bar Satsko (further info here), the tiny east village restaurant & bar that over the years has become my go to place for good times. I found out last week that the owner, Satsko Watanabe has begun making Pork ($12) & Vegetable ($11) Ramen on […]
