Jane Revisited
Posted on | October 26, 2011 | 2 Comments
My first visit to Jane back in January was pretty good, so I jumped at the chance to check the place out again for brunch recently. A friend was celebrating his birthday & there was 11 of us in total, meaning that I’d be able to see more of the menu. Given that we were such a large group, they seated us in the downstairs Green Room. It was less spacious than the main room, but no less inviting. Read more
Wine Tasting Tonight at In Vino
Posted on | October 12, 2011 | No Comments
In Vino, one of the many excellent Italian restaurants in the East Village will be hosting a wine tasting tonight with Sol Stars:
Dear Lovers Of WINE!
We have brought in two new wines from Tuscany and have a chance to pour them both totally on the house. Come on in and get a glass each of a beautiful Autumn white made from Vermentino and an earthy Morellino Di Scansano.
After you taste the awesomeness and talk with the Jayne Rockmill and the wine maker himself, Sergio Bucci, have a seat and dive into our authentic Italian menu and grab a bottle of the wnies we just plied you with! They are deliscous, seasonal and AFFORDABLE!
So, If you’ve got nothing to do tonight from 6-8pm, head to In Vino. If you plan to eat there, get the Lasagna!

Manzo

As part of my first visit to Eataly a few weeks ago, I stumbled on Manzo & decided to get some lunch. There are a bunch of restaurants in the sprawling store, but this one really caught my eye. Manzo means ‘Beef’ in Italian, so by the name & the logo, you can guess what’s on the menu. Hurricane Irene had lots of people too scared to go out, so I was able to snag a seat at the bar. Read more

Grand Central Oyster Bar

There are only a handful of restaurants that bring out emotion like the Grand Central Oyster Bar. Maybe it’s the storied history, the beautiful vaulted ceilings of days gone by or the promise of delicious seafood. I’d been wanting to go here for quite some time & it didn’t take much of an effort to convince a few friends to tag along.
I’ve already mentioned the amazing architecture & while it would have been nice to eat in the main dining room, we planned to do some boozing so we pulled up a seat in the Saloon towards the rear of the restaurant. It almost felt like a private club or speakeasy with loads of wood panelling & devoid of the bright lighting at the counters. Read more
Rugby World Cup at Tuck Shop
Posted on | September 30, 2011 | No Comments
I’m gonna keep this short & sweet. Tuck Shop on St. Marks Place will be showing the 2011 Rugby World Cup match (Australia V Russia) at 10:15 tonight, immediately followed by the Aussie Rules Football Grand Final (Collingwood V Geelong) at Midnight. Rugby, footie & meat pies… What could go wrong?

IHOP

Initially I wanted nothing to do with this place, but I found myself down the block yesterday with an hour to kill so I decided to have some breakfast. Chain restaurants (TGIF, Denny’s & the like) aren’t really my cup of tea, but I’ll admit that once I made the decision to eat here, I was somewhat excited as the place reminds me of my childhood growing up in Cleveland. Avenue C, an area of the East Village packed with quaint, tree-lined streets bars, is getting ready for more of the same. Oktoberfest starts today & Zum Schneider opened at 11am for the celebrations to start.
So put on your lederhosen & get ready to hear live music and drink a lot of beer. If you’re hungry, I recommend the Haxn!

Live Bait
Posted on | September 22, 2011 | No Comments
Southern & Cajun cuisine ranks pretty high on my favorite food to eat, so I’ve been slowly trying to cross of as many restaurants in the city as I can. This week it was Live Bait’s turn. I’ve passed by the place a bunch of times, but never eaten there. While researching places for lunch, a friend suggested it, so after looking at the menu, I was excited to see what they had to offer. The space is Cajun through & through with corrugated iron on the walls & the definite feel of a bait shop somewhere in Louisiana. I started with a Lynchburg Lemonade & looked at the menu. Read more
